International Art Exchange: "The day I will never forget . . ."

International Art Exchange: Wednesday, May 14, 2008 10:31 am

The 2008 Tracy's Kids Art Therapy Program exhibit is very special. It will be on display at the Lombardi Cancer Center Atrium now through the end of May.

The artworks  are responses to the theme, “The day I will never forget.” They were created by young patients in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology clinics and hospitals in Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Jordan and the US. . Tracy Councill, Program Director for Tracy’s Kids, participated in the meetings of the Middle East Cancer Consortium (MECC) in 2007. Inspired by the climate of collaboration and cooperation in the meetings, this show brings together some 200 works of art from children in five countries. Our goal is to help young people in very distant places connect through the common ground of artistic expression and story. The young people in the show live in remote villages, major cities, and everything in between. They come from diverse cultural, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds, but each of them is coping with the confines of treatment for a serious illness. A copy of the entire show will be sent to each participating center.
On Friday, May 16, at 1:00 the Tracy's Kids Art Therapists at Georgetown will host a gallery talk to discuss the show and gather responses from the hospital community to the project.
